Completed projects

The Parish Council are pleased to advise that they have now completed a number of projects throughout the parish.

Burgh by Sands War Memorial

The Memorial has now been inscribed with the names of the members of the armed forces who gave they lives in World War 2 and was rededicated during the last Remembrance Sunday service.

The Parish Council would like to thank Councillor John Collier and Carlisle City Council for the financial assistance given to this project.

Moorhouse Village Play Area

The play area has now been completed with new play equipment, fencing, shelter, seating and picnic tables.

The Parish Council would like to thank those who gave financial assistance:-

United Utilities plc (via Groundworks North East Ltd)

Cumbria County Council (Councillor Trevor Allison)

Neighbourhood Forum

The Hadfield Trust

Cumberland Building Society

Cumbria Waste Management Environmental Trust

Carlisle City Council (Rural Development)

Boustead Hill Shelter

Due to storm damage earlier in the year the shelter at Boustead Hill road end had to be removed for safety reasons.  It has now been replaced with a new wooden shelter to match other shelters in the parish.

The Parish Council is grateful for the financial assistance received from Cumbria County Council (Councillor Trevor Allison) and the Neighbourhood Forum.

Further information regarding these projects can be obtained from members of the parish council or its’ officers.

New projects

The Parish Council would like to advise that they intend to undertake a number of projects throughout the parish.

Burgh Marsh Road

New fencing is to be erected round the shelter and Boustead Hill road end.

New depth mark signage is currently in hand by Cumbria County Council and should be installed in the near future.  The Parish Council has been actively pursuing this matter for some time with the County Council.

Moorhouse Play Area/Village Green

Two further picnic tables have been ordered and will be installed in the near future. Thanks to the Neighbourhood Forum for help with funding for these items.

Moorhouse Village

The Parish Council is actively lobbying Cumbria County Council Highways Department for a 7.5 tonne weight restriction on the B5307 road through the village.

Thurstonfield Green

It is intended to resurface the triangular area on which the council notice board is situated.  The grassed area will be levelled and reseeded to provide a safer play area for the local children.   This work should be carried out during September/October.

Parish Pathways

Some work was carried out in 2009 to replace field gates and kissing gates on a number of paths leading to Burgh Marsh.  Further work of this nature is being carried out at present to further improve the pathways for walkers.  The Parish Council would like to thank Cumbria County Council (Parish Paths Initiative) for the financial assistance to carry out this work.

Burgh by Sands Play Area

The Parish Council is seeking funding in order to improve and upgrade the facilities and play equipment in this play area.  After this years routine maintenance inspection was carried out work was undertaken to replace the roof panels on the climbing unit and a damaged leg on the swing frame.  Further items of play equipment will be installed as funding allows.

It is proposed to improve safety by closing off the small gate at the roadside and removing the steps on the bank. Access will then be from the gate adjacent to the shrubbery area. The gate will be altered to be self closing.

West End Playing Field

A new roadside gate has been installed recently.  A metal sign has been put on the gate to remind people that DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN ANY PLAY AREAS for health and safety reasons.  This is the THIRD sign that has been put up recently.  Two polycarbonate signs have been broken off and removed recently.  The police have been informed of these incidents and if anyone sees any vandalism in future the Parish Council would urge them to contact the appropriate authorities. The cost to parishioners to replace these items can be quite considerable.

Signposts

All signposts in the parish have renovated over the last few years.  The parish council is now surveying all signposts in order to have cleaning and repainting undertaken as required.

Grants

Various grants were awarded in May of this year.  There is still a small amount of funding available to local groups from the parish council.  Grant applications need to be submitted to the council by the end of October for consideration in November. Grants cannot be made retrospectively. Claim forms are available from the financial officer (Telephone 576699).

Should anyone have any suggestions as to future projects that could be undertaken please contact any member or officer of the parish council.

Dates of Parish Council meeting and agendas are posted on the notice boards throughout the parish.
